Background
Botswana is located just north of South Africa, and the capital being Gaborone. The people of Botswana are known as Batswana.
In 1852, Britain came to terms with the independence of the people in the land north of the Vaal River, known as the Transvaal. In that land lived the Boers and the Tswana, who were enemies. After violence between the two tribes, the Tswana petitioned Britain for protections against the Boers. In 1877, Britain annexed the Transvaal, resulting in the First Boer War. Eventually, in 1885, Britain gave in to the Tswana's petitions.
In 1964, the British left, allowing the Batswana to be independent. A new constitution was written, and their independence was granted in September, 1966.
